... Read moreGrowing up in a culture where beauty standards are not only rigid but also rapidly changing can be incredibly challenging. I can relate deeply to the experience of feeling pressured to erase natural features and conform to an ever-moving target, especially when those standards seem to conflict with one’s identity or upbringing. For me, the turning point was recognizing the impossibility of keeping up with societal ideals that are always shifting — what’s praised today may be criticized tomorrow. I was raised in an environment where body shaming was a norm, particularly tied to religious values that made me feel apologetic for simply having curves. Entering the fashion and modeling industry, this pressure intensified. Public scrutiny about weight and appearance wasn’t just common, it was expected. However, it became clear to me that fighting against these unrealistic standards required a different approach — promoting body neutrality rather than chasing positivity through comparison or perfection. Body neutrality focuses on accepting and respecting your body as it is, without the constant need to categorize it as 'good' or 'bad'. It’s about acknowledging your worth doesn’t depend on appearance alone. This mindset shift has helped me and many others to combat the negative effects of patriarchal beauty standards that dominate media and culture. Sharing content that promotes body neutrality allows us to support especially young girls who struggle to find role models embracing diverse and authentic selves. Until society stops treating self-despise as normal, the journey towards true body acceptance continues. The goal isn’t to be universally accepted, but to foster a healthier relationship with one’s own body — regardless of external opinions or shifting trends. If you’ve ever felt overwhelmed by unrealistic body expectations or exhausted from trying to fit in, know that it’s okay to step back and focus on how you feel about your body rather than how it looks by current standards. Embracing this approach is an empowering act of self-love that is necessary to challenge outdated and harmful cultural narratives.
