A killer thinks everybody is plotting on them.
A liar thinks everybody is lying.
A hustler thinks everybody is running a scam.
A cheater swears everybody is cheating.
Why?
Because people often see the world through the lens of their own behavior. That's called projection.
Sometimes folks aren't exposing your character... they're revealing their own.
Now don't get me wrong. The Bible tells us to be wise as serpents and harmless as doves (Matthew 10:16). Discernment is a gift from God. But discernment and paranoia are not the same thing.
Discernment says, "Let me pay attention to the fruit."
Paranoia says, "Everybody is guilty before I have evidence."
One is wisdom. The other is fear wearing a church hat.
Some people call everything a "red flag" because they've never healed from the last relationship, friendship, church hurt, or business deal. They walk into every room expecting betrayal and then wonder why they can't trust anybody.
That's why the Bible says, "As a man thinks in his heart, so is he" (Proverbs 23:7). Your mindset shapes how you see people.
So judge people by their actions, not just your assumptions.
Pray.
Pay attention.
Trust the Holy Spirit.
But also trust the brain God gave you.
Not every feeling is a warning.
Not every thought is revelation.
Not every voice in your ear is from God.
Sometimes it's fear.
Sometimes it's trauma.
Sometimes it's pride.
And sometimes it's your cousin who got all his relationship advice from TikTok. 😂
Ask God for discernment, watch people's fruit, and use common sense. Faith doesn't require you to turn your brain off.
The Holy Spirit leads, but wisdom confirms.
Stay prayed up, stay aware, and remember: just because somebody is suspicious of everybody doesn't mean they're discerning. Sometimes they're just telling on themselves.
