... Read moreIt's never fun to feel completely under the weather, and trust me, I'm right there with you! Just left the doctor's office feeling a bit drained but relieved to have been checked out. The doctor gave me a prescription, and now it's all about resting up and letting it do its magic. While I'm waiting to feel like myself again, I wanted to share some thoughts on what helps me when I'm not feeling well, especially when you're stuck at home or trying to get through the day.
First off, don't ignore the signs. If you're really sick, like I was, heading to the doctor's office is crucial. Getting 'checked out' by a professional gives you peace of mind and the right treatment, whether it's a simple cold or something more serious. It's easy to push through, but listening to your body and seeking medical advice is incredibly important. Sometimes, just knowing what you're dealing with can make you feel a little better mentally, even if your body is still protesting.
Once you have your prescription in hand, consistency is key. Make sure to take it exactly as directed, even if you start feeling a little better. Beyond medication, hydration is my number one rule for battling any illness. Herbal teas, plain water, or clear broths can make a huge difference in how quickly you recover and how you feel overall. Also, remember to eat light, nourishing meals if you can manage them. Nobody wants to cook a gourmet meal when they’re feeling nauseous or have absolutely no energy. Simple toast, a comforting bowl of soup, or fresh fruit can be total lifesavers, providing much-needed sustenance without upsetting your stomach.
For those times when you just need to communicate that you're 'out of commission' without being overly dramatic, sometimes a lighthearted phrase can help. Instead of just saying 'I'm sick,' you might try, 'My body is currently staging a full-scale protest,' or 'I'm currently auditioning for a role as a professional couch potato.' Finding a way to let friends, family, or colleagues know you're not up to full speed without over-explaining can be really helpful. For me, just knowing I won't be posting till Friday because I'm prioritizing my health takes off a huge amount of pressure. It's about setting boundaries and giving yourself permission to recover.
And finally, rest is absolutely non-negotiable. I know it's hard to switch off from work, social media, or daily chores, but quality sleep is when your body does its best healing. Dim the lights, put away screens an hour before you plan to rest, and create a cozy, quiet space where you can truly relax. Hot showers or baths can also be incredibly soothing when you're feeling congested or achy. Hopefully, by Friday, I'll be back to my usual self, full of energy and ready to create. In the meantime, I'm focusing completely on recovery. Remember, it's not selfish to slow down and take good care of yourself when sickness strikes – it's essential for your well-being!
I just came out of the doctors office, they said that I have nothing to worry about and that my strep test came back negative, but the doctor doesn’t that for sure because they did one in house and another one is being sent to a lab and will come in about 5 days.
