Washing My Husband’s Laundry

It’s that time of the week where I tackle everyone’s laundry. I separate all of our laundry according to person because some weeks I go through more laundry and some weeks my Husband goes through more laundry. Depending on who goes through more laundry first determines who gets theirs done first. This system works for us and it is always evolving and ever changing. The ultimate goal is for everyone to always have clean undies!

... Read moreAfter sharing my personal laundry sorting system, many of you asked for more details on how I truly conquer laundry day, especially when dealing with what feels like five loads of laundry at a time! It's not just about sorting; it's about making the entire process efficient, effective, and even a little less daunting. One of my biggest secrets to handling large volumes of clothes, besides sorting by person, is to pre-sort even further. I have separate bins for lights, darks, and delicates. This might seem like an extra step, but it saves so much time later and protects your clothes. For tough items like my husband's work clothes or heavily soiled items, I'll even have a dedicated pre-soak bucket. Speaking of machines, investing in a good, robust washer makes a huge difference. I've found that a reliable machine, like a Speed Queen, can really handle those heavy-duty cycles and larger loads without a hitch, which is crucial when you're doing back-to-back washes. Another common challenge is dealing with stubborn odors. My husband's gym clothes or sometimes even our towels can get that funky smell. For these, I've learned a few tricks. Adding a cup of white vinegar to the rinse cycle works wonders as a natural deodorizer and fabric softener. For really persistent smells, especially from activewear, I sometimes pre-soak them in a solution with a product like 'Odoban' (or a similar laundry sanitizer) which is designed to eliminate odors rather than just mask them. This is a game-changer for keeping everything smelling 'night ice' fresh! Beyond odors and sorting, knowing a few best laundry tips can elevate your entire routine. Always read care labels! It sounds simple, but it prevents shrinking and damage. For stains, pre-treating immediately is key. I keep a stain remover stick handy for quick action. And regarding water temperature: cold water is generally best for most clothes to prevent fading and shrinking, saving energy too. Hot water is reserved for whites, towels, and heavily soiled items that need sanitizing. Choosing the right detergent also plays a huge role in the effectiveness of your wash. There are so many options out there, from liquid to powder, pods, and eco-friendly formulas. I always look for a high-efficiency (HE) detergent since my machine is HE, to prevent oversudsing. When considering a brand, like 'Liby' or any other, I often check online reviews to see if it truly lives up to its claim of 'not afraid of getting dirty.' A good detergent should tackle grime without leaving residue. It's about finding what works best for your household's specific needs and water type. Ultimately, my goal is always to achieve that feeling of satisfaction when everything is clean, folded, and put away. By combining smart sorting with these practical tips for handling large loads, fighting odors, and choosing the right products, laundry day becomes less of a chore and more of a streamlined household task. It's a system that's constantly evolving, but these core principles have made a world of difference in keeping our household running smoothly and, most importantly, ensuring everyone always has clean undies!

Wait am I today years old figuring out this is how you’re supposed to load your washer?????

I don’t know if you’d wanna do this and I know you didn’t ask for any advice but usually instead of rinsing out my laundry detergent cup I’ll just drop it in the washer with the clothes that way it gets washed out every time and you don’t have to rinse it and there’s no soap residue ..
