Living with Tourette’s syndrome can be especially challenging when in public. Sometimes I wear awareness bracelets or carry cards explaining Tourette’s to help others understand that tics are not voluntary and shouldn't be a cause for judgment. Managing stress and anxiety is crucial since these often exacerbate tics. Techniques such as deep breathing, mindfulness, or focusing on a calming activity can help reduce tic frequency. It’s also important to find a community, either online or in person, where you can share experiences and coping tips with others who understand firsthand. Despite the challenges, I’ve learned that being open about Tourette’s can foster empathy and break down stigma. Public awareness campaigns and hashtags like #tourettes and #ticcingtogether play a vital role in educating society and supporting those who live with this condition daily.
