... Read moreLiving with Tourette Syndrome often means navigating complex social and emotional situations. One experience many with Tourette’s share is the pressure to suppress their tics, especially around others who might not understand the condition. This can be deeply exhausting and emotionally taxing, as highlighted by the poignant question, "Why did you feel the need to suppress your tics around me?" From personal experience and stories shared within the Tourette community, suppressing tics is not a simple choice but a coping mechanism developed to avoid judgment or misunderstanding. Unfortunately, this suppression can lead to increased anxiety, physical discomfort, and emotional distress. I remember times when trying to control my tics in public made my body feel tense and my mind overwhelmed, making it harder to focus on conversation or enjoy social moments. Creating a supportive environment where people with Tourette Syndrome feel safe to express themselves without fear of criticism is crucial. Understanding and acceptance from friends, family, and strangers alike can reduce the need for such suppression, allowing individuals to be more at ease and confident. If you or someone you know struggles with the urge to hide tics, it’s essential to communicate openly about these experiences. Awareness campaigns and personal sharing help break down stigma and foster empathy. Remember, tics are a part of the person’s neurological makeup, and accepting them is a step toward building genuine connections and improving mental well-being.

A basement apartment interior shows water puddles on a wooden floor, reflecting light. A wooden dining table with chairs, a black water cooler, a pair of black and blue sneakers, and a grey towel are visible. A broken eggshell lies on the wet floor.
Unfortunately real…
So my basement apartment had water…. We a flood watch and it was pouring for hours. Water got in so that is unfortunate… we made this apartment just over a year ago so it definitely sucks when this stuff happens but nothing was broken and we are trying to figure out solutions! #unfiltered #le
