Too many 😭 #tourettes #neurodivergent #chronicillness #mcas #fyp
Living with multiple complex health conditions such as Tourette’s syndrome, neurodivergence, chronic illnesses, and Mast Cell Activation Syndrome (MCAS) often leads to being prescribed numerous medications. In my experience, it can sometimes feel overwhelming to keep track of all the different medicines, their dosages, and potential side effects. One question that I frequently encounter, which also appears in community conversations, is: "How many meds have you been prescribed?" This highlights the common reality of polypharmacy among people with overlapping health issues. Managing multiple prescriptions requires careful organization and proactive communication with healthcare professionals. I find that maintaining a detailed medication journal, where I note the name of each drug, what it's for, when to take it, and any side effects noticed, helps me stay on top of my treatment plan. It’s also important to regularly review medications with doctors to assess effectiveness and adjust as needed, as some treatments may become more or less relevant over time. Additionally, sharing experiences in supportive communities made up of others dealing with similar challenges—whether neurodivergent individuals, those with chronic illnesses, or MCAS patients—provides invaluable emotional support and practical advice. From personal trial and error, I’ve learned how vital it is to advocate for oneself, ask questions, and consider non-pharmacological strategies alongside medication to improve overall well-being. Ultimately, managing a heavy medication regimen is a balancing act that requires patience, persistence, and ongoing self-care. If you’re navigating similar health complexities, know you’re not alone, and seeking connection and information can make a big difference in finding what works best for you.
