Three things I did in 2024 that brought me peace
Struggling with ocd and an eating disorder my whole life has not been easy but I’ve been trying for the last decade to help myself feel more free in my body. This is just a small look into some of my daily practices that help me feel more connected to my body, mind and spirit! What may work for me may not work for you but I do hope this post reaches at least one person who needs it.
1. Allow myself time to be in the moment
My anxiety and ocd sometimes makes me feel like time is leaving me, like I can feel it running out. It has brought my mind great peace over the last 5 years to really stop. Take it all in. I make my cup of tea in the morning and stare at my dog & home and take the first moments of my day thinking and feeling grateful I get to live right here in this moment. I’ve had some losses through the years and this method has helped my grief tremendously, allowing me to feel whole and as if I didn’t take anything for granted.
2. Taking time to understand my emotions both negative and positive
Two words about three times: SHADOW WORK SHADOW WORK SHADOW WORK!
Giving myself grace to feel negative emotions as well as positive emotions has sure taken practice! It can be so hard when we grow up in environments where positive emotions are held as the only “right” way to feel. Allowing yourself to feel these negative emotions and understand they’re just as important as the positive emotions is an essential part of healing and growth.
3. Taking self care to the next step
This year I’ve really started to understand a shower is not SELF CARE, it’s just basic hygiene!
Instead I’ve looked more into booking massages and facials or doing my own at home, but not in the easy “throw on a sheet mask” way, more like in the slow careful “really spending time with my body” kind of way!
