I respect all peoples in the world, but I expect my race to be respected. I am Kurdish 🇳🇪🇨🇦

... Read moreLiving as a member of the Kurdish community in a multicultural city like Toronto offers a unique perspective on respect and identity. From personal experience, I have found that acknowledging and embracing one's heritage while respecting others fosters a more inclusive and understanding environment. Being Kurdish means carrying a rich history and culture that deserves recognition and respect. In Canada, diversity is celebrated, yet it is important to remember that this respect should be mutual. I have seen many instances where cultural misunderstandings occur simply because of a lack of awareness or communication. Through participating in local Kurdish events and engaging with people from various backgrounds, I have learned that sharing our stories helps break down barriers. It encourages empathy and helps others appreciate the depth of our culture. Respect is not only about tolerance but about valuing each other's identities fully. For those who identify with a strong cultural background, it is essential to maintain pride while remaining open to dialogue. This balance enriches both our own community and the broader society around us. In my journey, embracing both my Kurdish roots and my Canadian home has been empowering. It has taught me that respect is a two-way street, and by honoring our unique identities, we contribute to a more harmonious and respectful world.
