💩 Severance Card for Day 6!
An aptly themed card for my Getting my Shit Together card challenge…I didn’t know when I embarked on this journey that it would become so literal. I also made two seamless patterns for this! #severance #milchick #cardmaking #diy #seamless
When I started my 'Getting My Shit Together' card challenge, I never thought it would lead me down such a hilariously literal path! For Day 6, I knew I had to pay homage to one of the most iconic (and darkly funny) lines from the show *Severance*: the infamous 'Eat Shit' moment. If you've watched the show, you know exactly what I'm talking about, and it felt perfectly fitting for a challenge focused on getting things in order – sometimes, you just have to embrace the chaotic truth! The humor really lies in the unexpected, almost bureaucratic delivery of such a raw sentiment within the sterile world of Lumon. My goal was to create a card that was both a nod to the show's unique aesthetic and a genuinely well-crafted piece. I spent quite a bit of time designing two seamless patterns that really capture the corporate, slightly unsettling vibe of Lumon Industries. For the first pattern, I focused on geometric precision, mimicking the strict, repetitive nature of the office environment. Think subtle lines and grids, almost like a blueprint for compliance. The second pattern ventured into more abstract territory, using muted colors and distorted shapes to hint at the underlying psychological tension and the fragmented memories of the 'innies' and 'outies.' Creating seamless patterns was a fun challenge in itself, ensuring they tile perfectly without obvious breaks, which I felt mirrored the seamless (yet deeply flawed) integration of the Lumon workers. Crafting this card wasn't just about printing a funny phrase; it was about bringing a piece of the Severance world into a tangible art form. I experimented with different cardstock weights to get the right feel, aiming for something that felt substantial and high-quality, much like the show's production itself. I opted for a matte finish to avoid any gloss that might distract from the starkness of the message. The choice of font was also crucial – it had to feel official, yet slightly off-kilter, just like everything at Lumon. I spent a good hour just sifting through options until I found one that perfectly blended corporate blandness with a hint of underlying rebellion. For anyone else thinking of tackling a themed card-making project or even joining a 'getting your shit together' challenge, my biggest tip is to really lean into the details. Think about what makes your theme unique and how you can translate that into visual elements. Don't be afraid to create your own patterns or custom embellishments; it makes the final product so much more personal and impactful. This 'Eat Shit' card is more than just a laugh; it's a small, daily reminder to face challenges head-on, even the ones that feel incredibly mundane or, well, *shitty*! It's been such a fun and rewarding experience to combine my love for cardmaking with my obsession with *Severance*. If a card can make you smile while also reminding you to tackle your to-do list, then I'd say it's a win-win. I'm already brainstorming ideas for Day 7, probably something equally obscure and challenge-appropriate!
