The Art of Pricing: Why Some T-shirts Cost 500 and Some Cost 50,000
What makes the difference between 1 "T-shirt" at extreme price differences?
The simplest answer is "quality of raw materials."..But that's only 10% of the truth.
In my experience as a designer and brand consultant,
I learned that prices are not just numbers, they are stories that add value to people who want to pay more expensive things, and people don't choose the right things even if they look good.
When you're paying 50,000 baht to buy a T-shirt from a brand like The Row or Loro Piana, you're not just buying "cotton," but you're investing in 4 invisible "assets."
• Story and Philosophy (The Narrative): You are buying part of the founder's "myth" and vision.
• Craftsmanship & Scarcity: You are buying a craft that takes time and expertise, which is limited.
• Status & Belonging: You are buying a "membership card" of a group of people with the same taste and beliefs.
• Confidence: You are investing in the great "feeling" you will get when you wear it.
The most important lesson is this: Great brands do not start from "pricing," but start from "designing value" strong enough to make that price reasonable.
Remember that...Your job as a brand owner is not to sell goods at the cheapest price, but to maximize the "value" that the customer feels that what he is paying for...Always worth it, sir.
จากประสบการณ์จริงในการสร้างแบรนด์เสื้อผ้า ผมพบว่าการตั้งราคาเสื้อยืดไม่ได้จบเพียงแค่การเลือกผ้าดีๆ หรือการเย็บที่ปราณีตเท่านั้น แต่สิ่งที่สำคัญคือการสร้าง "เรื่องเล่า" ที่ทำให้ลูกค้ารู้สึกเชื่อมโยงและเห็นคุณค่าในตัวสินค้า เช่นเดียวกับเสื้อยืดจากแบรนด์หรูที่ราคาสูงมาก เช่น The Row หรือ Loro Piana ลูกค้าไม่ได้ซื้อแค่เสื้อธรรมดา แต่ได้รับประสบการณ์ ความภูมิใจ และความมั่นใจเมื่อนำเสื้อตัวนั้นมาใส่ เพราะฉะนั้น การลงทุนในงานฝีมือที่ใช้เวลาและความเชี่ยวชาญ รวมถึงการนำเสนอปรัชญาและปรากฏการณ์แบรนด์จึงกลายเป็นสินทรัพย์ที่ "มองไม่เห็น" แต่มีคุณค่ามากกว่าราคาวัตถุดิบ ผมเคยทดลองตั้งราคาสินค้าของผมเองใหม่ จากนั้นก็ใช้วิธีเล่าเรื่องราวของแบรนด์และคอนเซ็ปต์ที่สื่อถึงคุณภาพและความพิเศษของสินค้า ทำให้ลูกค้าหลายคนยอมจ่ายมากกว่าที่คิดไว้ และแฮปปี้กับการซื้อเพราะเข้าใจคุณค่าในสิ่งที่ได้รับ ไม่ใช่แค่ราคาถูกสุด นอกจากนี้ การสร้างความรู้สึกของสถานะและความเป็นส่วนหนึ่งในชุมชนคนที่ชอบสิ่งเดียวกันก็ช่วยสร้าง Loyalty ได้มากขึ้น เพราะเมื่อคนรู้สึกว่าตัวเองเป็นสมาชิกกลุ่มที่พิเศษ พวกเขาจะอยากรักษาความสัมพันธ์นี้ด้วยการซื้อสินค้าราคาแพงขึ้นอย่างมีเหตุผล ท้ายที่สุด อยากแนะนำเจ้าของแบรนด์ใหม่ๆ ว่าการตั้งราคาควรมองให้ลึกลงไปว่าคุณค่าที่ลูกค้าได้รับคืออะไร การสร้าง cerita (เรื่องเล่า) และการออกแบบคุณค่าที่เหล็กกล้ามากพอ จะช่วยให้ราคาที่ตั้งเป็นสิ่งที่ลูกค้ารับได้และรู้สึกคุ้มค่าเสมอครับ
