Apartment hunting in the GTA has become increasingly difficult, and I can totally relate to the struggle. Recently, my fiancé and I have been searching for an apartment, and the process has been pretty exhausting. One thing that stood out is how many listings use AI-enhanced photos that make places look way better online than they actually are in person. It’s really frustrating to show up excited about a place only to find it much smaller or less appealing than expected. What’s even more surprising is seeing apartments located outside the core GTA but still priced higher than my current downtown spot. This goes against what you’d expect—usually, places farther from the city center are more affordable—but the market seems unpredictable right now. The competition is fierce, and it feels like landlords know exactly what they’re doing. I received over 100 messages when trying to transfer my lease, which shows how high the demand is. If you’re house hunting, my advice is to insist on seeing as many actual photos as possible or, better yet, visit the apartment in person before committing. Don’t get tricked by AI renderings or overly edited listings. Prepare for some disappointment but try to stay hopeful—sometimes the perfect place just takes a little longer to find. Also, having a clear move-in timeline is crucial; I’m aiming for August 1st, which is cutting it close, so planning ahead really helps. Overall, it’s a mix of patience, persistence, and being cautious with online listings. Sharing this experience is my way of saying you’re not alone in this tough GTA apartment market.
