Book Addict

Hi, I’m Laken.

Back in September 2024 I joined a book club with a group of amazing women who meet once a month and discuss that month book eat some food and most likely do an activity. I joined so that I could start to train myself to create a little bit of me time as I am a bit of a workaholic and kind of go all in on shit. Not only did I find a group of like minded women to help expand my taste in reading material, I found my love of reading (or listening) to books again. Our group of 20+ women is still going strong and I’m so thankful I step out of my comfort zone and joined. Big thanks to @mymessymindbooks for posting the idea in the first place. 🫶🏼

I use Libby, audible, kindle, and printed books so yes I actually do read some too. After talking to a few people, I realized that I’m a bit of an oddity, because I do listen at minimum three times the rate.

Listening does help me when I’m trying to focus on writing reports at work and just focusing in general, so Libby has become one of my best friends it feels like. I decided to start sharing my opinions publicly on the books I 📖|🎧. If you follow you’ll notice I definitely consume more of a certain genre, but I do like to throw others into the mix as well.

I will always give my personal opinion and where the book is available.

... Read moreFinding the right balance between work and personal time can be challenging, especially for those who tend to immerse themselves fully in their careers. Joining a book club can be a game-changer, not only for creating dedicated ‘me time’ but also for expanding your reading horizons and social circle. From personal experience, I found that participating in a monthly women’s book club helped me rediscover my love for books, whether reading physical copies or listening through various platforms. Using apps like Libby and Audible, I was able to enjoy audiobooks during work tasks, which surprisingly enhanced my focus and productivity. Listening to stories at increased speeds allowed me to absorb more content without sacrificing attention to my job. This not only made work more enjoyable but also encouraged consistent engagement with reading formats that fit my lifestyle. The diversity in book selection at the club, influenced by a vibrant group of 20+ women, introduced me to genres and authors I might not have explored otherwise. For instance, avid readers looking for notable mentions might check out authors like Rina Kent, J Bree, and Navessa Allen, who resonate well within book communities. Sharing personal book opinions and availability details became a rewarding way to connect and inspire others. If you’re hesitant about stepping out of your comfort zone, joining a local or virtual book club could be the nudge you need to cultivate a lasting reading habit. It’s not just about books – it’s about building friendships, trying new activities, and ultimately enriching your mental and emotional well-being through literature.
