Concealer & Contour Placement

2024/8/6 Edited to

... Read moreOkay, babes, let's get real about concealer and contour. For the longest time, I felt like I was just guessing where to put everything, and my makeup ended up looking muddy or just... off. I saw so many diagrams online (and believe me, I tried them all!), but nothing truly clicked until I found this game-changing technique that's so simple, you'll wonder why you didn't think of it sooner! First, let's tackle contour placement, which used to be my biggest headache. Forget complex maps! Here's the trick I learned: place your index finger at the top of your ear, then stop with your thumb on your nose. That imaginary line your fingers create? That's your guiding path for contour! Apply your contour product (whether it's a stick, cream, or powder) just above that line, right in the hollow of your cheekbone. This ensures you're sculpting, not just drawing stripes on your face. This method works wonders for creating a natural shadow and defining your cheekbones without looking harsh. I've found it particularly helpful for my own face shape, giving a lifted effect without too much effort, especially when considering concealer placement for an oval face. Now, for concealer placement, it's all about brightening and perfecting. While the finger method is great for contour, concealer has a few key spots. My go-to areas are: Under-eyes: I apply it in an inverted triangle shape, blending outwards towards my temples to lift and brighten. This is where I want to banish any signs of a late night! T-zone: A tiny bit down the bridge of my nose, on my forehead between my brows, and on my chin helps bring light to the center of my face. Any redness or blemishes: A small dot directly on the spot, gently patted in, works wonders. Remember, less is often more with concealer. We want to enhance, not cake! And what about specific areas like nose contour? Once you've got your main contour down, a light hand is key for the nose. I like to draw two thin lines down the sides of my nose, starting from the inner corner of my brows, and blending really well. A tiny dot of concealer on the bridge of the nose and the tip brightens it up. For those with an oval face, I’ve found that applying contour slightly higher on the cheekbones, following that finger line, really helps to enhance the natural structure. Speaking of contour, let's quickly differentiate it from bronzer. Contour is meant to create shadows and define features, usually with cooler, ashier tones. Bronzer, on the other hand, adds warmth and a sun-kissed glow. So, while contour goes in those defined hollows, bronzer goes where the sun would naturally hit your face – forehead, cheekbones, and chin. Using both strategically can really elevate your look. My final tip? Blending, blending, blending! Whether it's concealer or contour, seamless blending is what makes it look natural and professional. A damp beauty sponge or a soft brush works best. Don't be afraid to experiment with different products too. I've been loving the Too Faced Concealer in Butterscotch and the One/Size Bronzer in Dark Trio lately – they blend like a dream! Practice makes perfect, and with this simple finger guide, you'll be a pro in no time. This is truly how to apply makeup step by step like a professional, even if you're a beginner.
