Korea’s famous “rice thief” has arrived in Toronto.
Seoul’s Michelin Bib Gourmand crab specialist, Gebang Sikdang, is now popping up in Toronto!
We tried two of their signatures:
🦀 Soy Marinated Crab
Savory soy flavor with sweet, tender crab meat.
🍚 Crab Roe Bibimbap
Rich crab roe, mixed perfectly with warm rice.
Each set also comes with salad, kimchi pancake, tofu steak, kimchi, and more. Even the seaweed sheets are flown in from Korea.
Wrap the crab and crab roe rice with the Korean seaweed for an even richer, more savory bite.
As a lover of Korean cuisine, I was thrilled when I heard that Gebang Sikdang, the Michelin Bib Gourmand crab specialist from Seoul, was making a pop-up appearance in Toronto. Having tried their Soy Marinated Crab and Crab Roe Bibimbap during my visit, I can say the experience truly transports your taste buds right to Korea. What struck me most was the balance of flavors in the soy-marinated crab – the savory richness paired perfectly with the natural sweetness and tenderness of the crab meat, leaving no fishy aftertaste. The Crab Roe Bibimbap was another highlight; the rich, aromatic crab roe blended into warm rice, creating a comforting yet luxurious dish. For the perfect bite, wrapping the crab and crab roe bibimbap in their imported Korean seaweed adds an extra layer of umami that is unforgettable. Each set comes thoughtfully curated with Korean staples like salad, kimchi pancake, tofu steak, and kimchi, which complement the main dishes and round out the meal beautifully. I appreciated how all these accompaniments echoed the authentic Korean dining experience, especially since the seaweed and some other ingredients are directly flown in from Korea. For anyone in Toronto seeking a genuine taste of Korean crab dishes that have earned Michelin acclaim, Gebang Sikdang’s popup is definitely worth visiting. It’s a delightful way to explore traditional Korean flavors with fresh ingredients and expert preparation that respects the culinary heritage. Whether you are a local food enthusiast or a fan of international cuisines, this pop-up offers a rich, savory journey that lives up to Korea’s famous “rice thief” reputation.
