The recent sinkhole in #WhartonNJ which was discovered to be caused by a mineshaft collapsing seems to be one of hundreds.

According to data presented nearly 600 abandoned mines beneath #NewJersey & a lot are in Morris County or Hunterdon County . The median age of the mines are 160 years old & were used for all sorts of things. The mines were digging for sometimes copper & other times iron ore.
