From my experience traveling through Spain and Portugal, what made the journey truly unforgettable was the carefully curated blend of cultural heritage, stunning landscapes, and convenient travel options. Starting in Madrid, the city’s art scene is truly world-class with the famous Golden Triangle of Art encompassing the Prado, Reina Sofia, and Thyssen-Bornemisza museums, a must-see for art enthusiasts. Traveling onward by high-speed train to Cordoba, the contrast between modern transport and ancient history is striking, especially when visiting the Mosque-Cathedral, which stands as a magnificent testament to the various cultures that have influenced the region. The time spent in Seville offers an authentic Andalusian experience; wandering through the beautiful Plaza de España and enjoying the warmth of its lively streets and historic monuments leaves a lasting impression. Flying into Lisbon introduces a wonderful city where old meets new seamlessly – from historic Belém Tower to the contemporary vibes of the city center. Exploring Lisbon with a city tour provides insights into the maritime history that shaped Portugal. What I found particularly special was renting a car in Lisbon to explore Porto and the Douro Valley. The UNESCO World Heritage status of these locations is well-deserved given the terraced vineyards and picturesque river landscapes. The Douro River cruise not only offers stunning views but an immersive way to appreciate the region’s famed wine culture. Staying at charming hotels in each city adds to the ease and comfort of the trip. Breakfasts included each day were a delightful way to start the morning, fueling up for full days of exploration. The seamless combination of flights, trains, private tours, and leisure time allowed for a richly rewarding travel experience without the usual stress of planning every detail.
