Tommy got brainwashed like 3 times

... Read moreYou know, thinking back to my childhood watching Power Rangers, one thing always stood out: how often poor Tommy Oliver ended up on the wrong side, brainwashed by the villains! It felt like a running gag sometimes, especially when you'd see a scene like 'Jason talking about how Tommy was once mind controlled to be evil,' only for him to get mind controlled... again. It’s almost a badge of honor for the guy, given how many times he led the team. It makes you wonder, why Tommy? Why was he always the prime target for Rita, Zedd, and even other foes? My theory is simple: he was the best. Villains always go for the strongest, the leader, the one who can turn the tide. And Tommy, in all his Ranger colors – Green, White, Red, Black – always fit that bill. His power and charisma were undeniable, making him the perfect, albeit unfortunate, candidate for evil manipulation. The most iconic instance, of course, was his debut as the Green Ranger under Rita Repulsa's spell. That arc was legendary! We saw him battle the other Rangers, defeat Megazord, and truly challenge Zordon's team. It was a high-stakes introduction that proved how dangerous a mind-controlled Tommy could be. The tension was real, and his eventual break from Rita's influence, thanks to the other Rangers' unwavering belief, was incredibly satisfying. It taught us about the power of friendship and never giving up on someone, even when they're fighting against you. Then, later, as the White Ranger, Lord Zedd tried his hand at brainwashing Tommy. Although not as prolonged as the Green Ranger saga, these attempts were equally terrifying. Zedd knew that if he could turn Tommy, the Rangers' morale would shatter. It showed that even after his initial experience, Tommy was still vulnerable, perhaps due to the immense power he wieldd. It was a constant reminder that the battle for his soul was never truly over, adding a layer of depth to his character. Even as the Red Zeo Ranger, there were moments of influence, brief periods where his judgment was clouded or his memories were tampered with by King Mondo's forces. These weren't always full-blown mind control in the traditional sense, but they certainly fit the pattern of him being repeatedly targeted for mental subjugation. It just goes to show that being the longest-serving Ranger came with its unique set of challenges, and frequently, those challenges aimed directly at his mind. These repeated incidents, while dramatic, also added a touch of dark humor to the series. Every time he seemingly broke free, you’d half expect another villain to pop up with a new mind-control device just for him. But through it all, Tommy's core strength, his sense of justice, and the bonds he shared with his teammates always brought him back. It was a testament to his character and why he remains such a beloved figure in the Power Rangers universe, even if he did get brainwashed... more than once!
