Get up and dressed to get out the slump sis!
wasn’t feeling well this week but being in the house didn’t work so I pushed myself to get dressed and I must say it definitely helps 💕
Okay, so we've all been there, right? That feeling where you wake up, and the thought of actually getting up seems like an Olympic sport. Maybe you're feeling a bit down, unmotivated, or just in a general funk. I know I have those days more often than I'd like to admit! It's so tempting to just stay in your PJs all day, especially if you're working from home or not planning to go anywhere. But let me tell you, I've discovered a game-changer: the simple act of getting dressed. It sounds so basic, but hear me out. When I'm feeling low, staying in my sleepwear just... amplifies the slump. It's like my brain gets the signal that it's still 'rest' time, and it's okay to wallow. But the moment I make that conscious effort to Get Up & Get Dressed, something shifts. It’s not magic, but it’s close! Psychologically, putting on 'real' clothes creates a boundary between sleeping and being productive, even if your 'productivity' for the day is just doing laundry or watching a movie on the couch. It tells your mind, 'Okay, we're starting the day now.' So, how do you actually do it when motivation is at an all-time low? Here are a few things that have really helped me: First, tackle the 'getting up' part. I used to hit snooze endlessly. Now, I try to place my alarm across the room so I have to physically get out of bed to turn it off. Once I'm standing, half the battle is won. Then, instead of immediately diving into my phone, I make myself a glass of water. It’s a tiny victory, but it starts the day with a positive, healthy habit. Next comes the 'getting dressed' part. Don't overthink it! This isn't about putting on a full face of makeup or a fancy outfit unless that's what genuinely makes you feel good. For me, it's about comfort and feeling presentable. I often pick out my clothes the night before if I know I have a challenging morning ahead. This removes decision fatigue when I'm groggy. If I didn't plan, I go for my 'power loungewear' – a comfy matching set, a clean t-shirt and breathable bottoms, or even just some well-fitting jeans and a nice sweater. The key is that it's not what I slept in. Think about colors that lift your spirits. For me, bright yellows or soft pastels can instantly make me feel a little lighter. Sometimes, just putting on some clean socks and a fresh top can make a world of difference. It's about small, manageable steps. Remember that feeling of being well-put-together, even if you're the only one who sees it? That internal feeling is incredibly powerful. It builds confidence and signals to yourself that you're worth the effort. This isn't about perfection; it’s about progress. On days when I've barely wanted to leave my bed, just making the effort to Get Up & Get Dressed has been my secret weapon. It doesn't instantly solve everything, but it's a powerful first step towards feeling more capable, more put-together, and ready to tackle whatever the day throws my way, even if that's just making a cup of tea without feeling guilty. Try it next time you're in a funk – you might be surprised how much a simple outfit change can turn your day around!
