For a long time, I felt like introducing myself meant talking about what I do.
“I’m a photographer.”
“I’m a brand designer.”
“I own a creative agency.”
And while I love what I do with my whole heart, I’ve been realizing that my career is only one piece of who I am.
Somewhere along the way, I think it’s easy to let work become our entire identity. Especially when you’re building something you’re proud of.
But I’m learning that success isn’t just about what I’m building. It’s also about making sure I don’t lose myself while building it.
Here’s to creating a life that’s just as meaningful as the career we’re working so hard for. ✨
Over the years, I've come to understand that defining myself solely by my job title—whether as a photographer, brand designer, or agency owner—only paints a partial picture of who I really am. Like many creative entrepreneurs, it’s tempting to let work consume our sense of self, especially when we pour our hearts into building something meaningful. One thing I've learned is that success feels hollow if you lose sight of the other parts of your identity that bring joy and fulfillment. For me, that means embracing the simple pleasures: enjoying a sparkling fruit drink, feeling at peace walking by the lake in the early morning, savoring Jamaican food, or cozying up in comfy clothes but still cherishing moments when I can dress up. I’m someone who treasures time with loved ones and has built a supportive community through my loc journey. Acknowledging that I am more than just my professional role has been transformative. It’s about choosing to prioritize a life that I love alongside building a business. Sometimes that means making space for hobbies, self-care, faith, and adventures like trips to the movie theater—things that nurture my soul and keep me grounded. If you’re an entrepreneur or creative professional, I encourage you to remember that your personality, passions, and personal values are just as important as your work accomplishments. When you take care of these aspects, you’ll find that your career and life grow in harmony, creating a sustainable and authentic version of success that truly fulfills you.
