What’s The Career Lesson I Learned Too Late..??

When I first started out, I thought success came from having the perfect plan.

Study hard → get the degree → get the job → move up. Simple, right?

Except… no one tells you how much pivoting is actually part of the journey.

I studied dentistry, then moved into public health, and now I’m working in AI healthcare… and every step, I had to unlearn and relearn something new.

No one teaches you how to adapt, how to advocate for yourself, or how to recognize when it’s time to evolve.

If I could go back, I’d tell myself:

➡️ Careers aren’t ladders anymore, they’re maps.

➡️ Learning how to learn is the most valuable skill you can have.

➡️ Every “wrong” turn is data, it tells you what fits and what doesn’t.

What’s something you wish someone had told you before you started working? 👇

... Read moreNavigating today's career landscape requires more flexibility and resilience than traditional paths suggest. As highlighted, viewing careers as 'maps' rather than ladders better reflects how professionals move through diverse roles and industries, sometimes unexpectedly. This mindset encourages openness to change and reframes setbacks as part of a necessary exploration process. Adapting is key. With fields evolving rapidly, especially with technologies like AI transforming healthcare, professionals must keep updating their skills and knowledge. Learning how to learn effectively — embracing curiosity and seeking new information actively — becomes a critical capability that fuels career longevity and satisfaction. Self-advocacy also plays a vital role. Knowing when to seek mentorship, negotiate opportunities, or pivot your focus allows you to steer your career proactively instead of being passively shaped by circumstances. Importantly, perceiving every "wrong" turn as data shifts the perspective from failure to feedback. Each experience, even if not aligned with initial plans, provides insight into personal strengths, preferences, and industry demands, helping recalibrate your path more wisely. For individuals entering the workforce or evaluating their career trajectory, these lessons emphasize that clarity comes not from rigid plans but from adaptive strategies and reflective learning. By embracing change and continual growth, professionals can turn unexpected detours into valuable steps toward meaningful and rewarding careers.

That it’s to okay to shadow a career fully, always take the base level classes first don’t try to skip to or test out of base level classes and also it’s always just a job, save up money from that job and find something that you enjoy, are good at, and can tolerate

My advice: Stop trying to find the “perfect career.” Instead, start paying attention to the moments when you feel most alive, curious, or challenged. That’s where your path begins to reveal itself. The goal isn’t to have everything figured out its to keep moving toward what feels meaningful. What’s one thing that made you realize you were on the right (or wrong) career path?

Career lessons I learned the hard way 🙃
I wish I learned these lessons sooner, but unfortunately I had to learn them the hard way! The working world is a lot different than school, and it can take time to get adjusted. At the end of the day, remember it’s a job and you’re there to make your bag! Don’t get too involved in office pol

The lesson I learned too late in nursing
If I could start over, I’d tell myself this: it’s okay to say no and set boundaries even when you want to be everything for everyone. Early in my nursing career, I pushed myself to the limit trying to prove I could handle every challenge, every shift, every patient’s needs. I thought that’s what

The lesson I wish I learned sooner 😔
One thing I’ve noticed a lot of women realize too late is how much their time, energy, and self-worth are worth. We spend so much trying to please others, stay in relationships that don’t lift us up, or chase validation that we forget to prioritize ourselves. I wish I had known earlier that saying
