What makes reading the Bible so hard sometimes?

What makes reading the Bible so hard sometimes?

Because the Bible was written in ancient times, and like any historian, theologians have to bridge that gap to understand the culture, people, language, and social structures of that time.

They use a method called hermeneutics to do that.

With Protos, we’ve taken the heart of that method and made it simple enough for anyone to use, no seminary degree or thousands of books needed.

Our hope is that Protos can help bless and equip Christians and church leaders to serve God wherever they’re called. In the church, the marketplace, or everyday life. ❤️

... Read moreReading the Bible can often seem difficult because it requires more than just reading the text at face value; it demands understanding the historical, cultural, and linguistic context in which it was written. This is where hermeneutics—the art and science of interpretation—plays a crucial role. By examining the surrounding context, language nuances, societal norms, and the original intent of the authors, hermeneutics helps readers gain clearer insight into biblical passages. Many readers struggle because the Bible was written thousands of years ago in ancient languages like Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek. To truly grasp the meaning, one needs to consider the cultural background, social structures, and everyday life of biblical times. For example, the story of 2 Samuel reflects a period filled with political intrigue and complex leadership dynamics, which can be confusing without proper background information. Apps like Protos are designed to make this process accessible to everyday readers without the need for a seminary degree or extensive theological training. Protos incorporates guided questions, highlights, background explanations, and contextual insights to foster deeper understanding. This approach helps users engage actively with Scripture, promoting growth in faith rather than treating reading as a checklist activity. By using guided Bible study tools, readers can learn to observe details carefully, ask meaningful questions about passages, and connect verses to broader biblical themes. This enriches the reading experience and makes biblical teachings more applicable to various life situations—whether in the church, workplace, or personal life. Ultimately, recognizing the challenges of biblical interpretation and using helpful resources empowers Christians to handle the Word of truth correctly, growing spiritually and serving their communities more effectively.
