A kidney transplant can be life-changing, giving many people greater freedom and a better quality of life. But it's important to remember that a transplant is a treatment for kidney failure, not a cure for kidney disease.

Transplanted kidneys still require lifelong monitoring, anti-rejection medication, and ongoing medical care. Sadly, transplanted kidneys do not last forever, which is why protecting kidney health and supporting organ donation remain so important.

Today we celebrate transplant recipients, honour living and deceased donors, thank healthcare professionals, and remember the thousands of people still waiting for a life-saving transplant.
