Here’s a Curveball explaination for you guys! Control your shoulders, be body aware, stick your landing! #softballpitcher #PitchingTips #pitchingdrills #SoftballPitching
When learning to pitch a curveball effectively, one of the most important aspects is developing a strong sense of body awareness throughout your entire pitching motion. Controlling your shoulders is crucial because the shoulder rotation largely determines the trajectory and spin of the ball. In my own experience practicing with the Twisted Seams Pitching Academy, focusing on how my shoulders align before and during release helped me generate a more consistent curve. Additionally, ‘sticking your landing’ is often overlooked but makes a significant difference in balance and follow-through. Landing firmly and balanced on your front foot after the pitch maintains momentum and allows better control over the ball's direction. I found that drills emphasizing a soft yet balanced landing enhanced my stability, reducing erratic pitches. Incorporating targeted pitching drills that emphasize shoulder control and body mechanics can accelerate progress. For example, shadow pitching without a ball can help build muscle memory for the correct posture and movement without worrying about ball placement. Moreover, integrating mindfulness about your body’s movements during practice sessions can elevate your pitching skills. This approach also reduces the risk of injury by promoting efficient movement patterns. Combining these elements consistently will lead to noticeable improvements in your curveball and overall softball pitching performance.
