Coffee Roastery = Coffee Mastery? ☕️

Melbourne is the city of flat whites ☕️ so good cafes are everywhere.

But not every cafe roasts their own beans — so when we spotted this Roasting Warehouse, we were excited.

Roasting Warehouse | North Melbourne

Expectation: great beans + great extraction

Reality: the coffee was… pretty average

☕ Coffee: decent, but nothing stands out

🍳 Food: surprisingly good (the Turkish eggs with the crispy & light ciabatta were packed with healthy flavours in the best ways, and comes as a very generous portion)

🙋 Service: polite, but not particularly friendly

Overall, it’s a solid brunch option if you’re nearby.

But if you’re making a special trip for coffee, there are probably better spots in Melbourne to check 🤷‍♂️

... Read moreVisiting a roastery café often raises expectations of superior coffee quality, given the control over freshly roasted beans. However, my experience at Roasting Warehouse in North Melbourne highlighted that freshness alone doesn't guarantee top-notch coffee. The coffee was decent but lacked distinctive flavors or complexity, which suggests that mastering the roast and extraction process involves more than having a roasting setup. On the other hand, the food at Roasting Warehouse pleasantly surprised me. The Turkish eggs served with crispy, light ciabatta were flavorful and generously portioned, making it a standout choice for brunch lovers. This combination of solid food with passable coffee shows that sometimes the culinary side can outshine the beverage, even in coffee-focused venues. The service, while polite, lacked warmth and engagement, which impacted the overall dining atmosphere. Friendly and attentive staff can greatly enhance the café experience and encourage repeat visits. For Melbourne coffee enthusiasts, it’s worth noting that not every spot that roasts its own beans masters the art of coffee extraction and flavor profiling. This serves as a reminder to look beyond the 'roastery' label and seek cafés that excel in both bean roasting and barista craftsmanship to truly appreciate Melbourne's vibrant coffee culture. If you’re nearby, Roasting Warehouse offers a solid brunch option with good food, but for coffee aficionados making a special trip, exploring other renowned cafés around Melbourne might provide a more exceptional coffee experience.
