... Read moreMy journey to losing 40 pounds has been all about finding balance and truly listening to my body, even on days when things don't go perfectly, like when I'm feeling sick. It's so easy to get discouraged when you’re not feeling well and your usual routines go out the window, but I’ve learned that consistency, not perfection, is what really counts in the long run. When I first started out, I was pretty strict, but that wasn't sustainable. Over time, I’ve shifted towards a more intuitive eating approach, which means honoring my hunger and fullness cues, and choosing foods that make me feel good. For example, on a sick day like this, sometimes all I want is something comforting and easy to digest, like a warm bowl of chicken noodle soup. It’s not about strict rules, but about making the best choices for that moment. The calorie and timestamp tracking from my meals (like the scrambled eggs, sausage, and toast for breakfast, or later, the watermelon and cherries) has been a helpful tool, not a restrictive one. It helps me stay mindful without feeling like I'm constantly on a diet. Hydration is another massive component that often gets overlooked, especially when you're under the weather. I always try to keep sparkling water or herbal tea on hand. For me, the blackberry lime sparkling water is a great way to feel like I'm having a treat while still staying hydrated. And speaking of treats, yes, I had an ice cream sandwich and a banana streusel bar! Part of sustainable weight loss is allowing for those moments of enjoyment. Deprivation often leads to binging, so I've found that incorporating smaller treats in moderation makes the entire process much more enjoyable and keeps me from feeling deprived. It’s all about fitting them into my overall daily intake and not letting one treat derail my entire week. My overall strategy for losing 40 pounds wasn't just about what I ate on good days, but how I navigated the challenging ones. It involved learning to forgive myself for imperfect choices, getting back on track the very next meal, and understanding that progress isn't linear. Simple, wholesome options like eggs, toast, and fruit (like those refreshing watermelon slices when you're a bit queasy) are staples, but there's also room for convenience items like crackers or even a comforting can of soup. It’s about building a sustainable lifestyle, one meal at a time, and being kind to myself through the ups and downs. If you're on a similar journey, remember that every day is a new chance to make mindful choices, and it's okay to adapt your plan when life throws a sick day your way.

Today was about balance! Celebrating my daughters birthday so we had a donut and a latte (I had the chocolate frosted donut with sprinkles) before she went to school and a piece of cake after dinner (I weighed it out to be accurate). Lunch and dinner I kept it on the healthier side but so delicious
