Do you think I should start shampooing twice? 👀

Okay I need your opinion, is shampooing twice when you wash your hair really that much of a game changer?

I've heard that if your hair gets oily too quick that double shampooing can be helpful but to be honest I'm scared of drying my hair out...

My scalp is already super irritated and sensitive, so I don't want to damage it further with too much shampoo ...

I also don't really use much product on my scalp post-shower so I don't think I would need to remove a lot of build-up, but I do struggle with dandruff and an oily scalp 😭

If you double shampoo, please let me know how it has been going for you!

... Read moreLike many of you, I've been wrestling with the "double shampoo or not to double shampoo" question for ages! My hair gets oily so quickly, and dealing with persistent dandruff is a constant battle. I've heard amazing things about this technique for oily scalps, but I also worried, "Is double shampooing bad for my hair? Will it just dry out my already sensitive scalp?" It's a real dilemma when you're trying to find that perfect balance for healthy hair. So, why do people swear by it? The core idea behind a double shampoo hair routine is simple: the first wash is like a pre-cleanse. Its main job is to break down and lift away all the surface-level gunk – excess oil, product buildup, and environmental impurities. Think of it as clearing the path. For someone like me, who experiences an oily scalp and sometimes sees those white dandruff flakes on dark hair, this first step is crucial. It gets rid of the immediate problems that make your hair feel flat and grimy, often leading to washing hair every two days or even daily. The second wash is where the real treatment happens. With the hair already prepped and much of the oil gone, the shampoo can truly get to your scalp and strands. This allows the beneficial ingredients, especially in specialized scalp shampoo formulas for dandruff or an irritated scalp, to work more effectively. It ensures a deeper cleanse, leaving your hair feeling genuinely refreshed and often allowing you to go longer between washes. If you're wondering how to actually do it without causing further irritation, here’s my double shampoo technique that has worked wonders for my sensitive scalp. First Wash – Focus on Scalp: I take a small amount of a clarifying or gentle everyday shampoo (about a dime-sized dollop for my long hair). I focus this primarily on my oily scalp and roots, gently massaging it in with my fingertips – no harsh scrubbing! The goal isn't a massive lather, just to loosen up the oils and buildup. Think of it as a quick, effective scrub for your scalp. I rinse this out thoroughly. You might notice less lather the first time, and that's totally normal. Second Wash – Deeper Cleanse & Treat: For the second round, I use an even smaller amount of shampoo, usually one specifically formulated for my dandruff or sensitive scalp. This time, it lathers up beautifully because the hair is already cleaner. I concentrate on the scalp shampoo application close up, ensuring all areas of my head are getting treated. I let it sit for a minute or two, allowing the ingredients to work their magic, then rinse meticulously until the water runs clear. Conditioning – Don't Forget the Ends! After two washes, it’s essential to condition, especially if you're worried about drying hair out. I focus conditioner from the mid-lengths to the ends, avoiding my scalp entirely to prevent weighing down my roots or contributing to oiliness. My hair can get dry and messy towards the ends, so this step is vital. One thing I learned is that is double shampooing bad really depends on how you do it and what products you use. If you have fine hair, you might need even less product for both washes to avoid weighing it down. The key is choosing the right shampoo. A harsh, sulfate-heavy shampoo used twice might indeed lead to a drying hair out feeling or exacerbate an irritated scalp. Look for sulfate-free options or shampoos specifically designed for sensitive or dandruff-prone scalps. Since starting this double shampoo hair routine, I've noticed a significant reduction in my dandruff and my hair feels genuinely cleaner for longer, without feeling stripped. It’s definitely improved my oily scalp situation and reduced those pesky flakes. For me, the answer to "should you double shampoo?" for oily, dandruff-prone hair with a sensitive scalp is a resounding yes – with caveats! It's been a total game-changer. If you're seeing those visible flakes or your hair gets oily quickly, give this technique a thoughtful try. Listen to your hair and scalp, adjust your products, and you might just find your new holy grail hair regimen.

Babes you should ALWAYS double cleanse. It’s a non negotiable when it comes to hair care and scalp care. It won’t dry up your hair if you follow up with something neg moisturizing. The first is to help soften up and release the build up on your scalp and rinse off whatever products you may have layered on. The second wash is to help wash out whatever gunk you just lifted. You’ll notice while doing it that your hair feels more cleaner or “stripped” should I say if whatever was on it. Grease and whatever else. Change your shampoo to one that isn’t too drying or get suggestions from a dermatologist. Use a moisturizing conditioner and a light leave in conditioner. Seal your ends with a lightweight oil like jojoba. Deep condition 1-2x a week. Do a hot oil treatment for your scalp 1-2x a week a day before or 2-3hours before washing your hair. All of this will help tremendously. Sometimes scalp irritation, flaking, redness and burning can come from not properly cleaning the scalp or over washing it. If you need to, try rubbing jojoba oil or squalane oil on your hand and fingertips and gently massage it into your scalp. You might think how does that work since my scalp gets oily but sometimes you over produce oil because you’re stripping your scalp dry and not putting anything back on so now it’s over compensating with its natural oils.

I got this shampoo for dandruff and I also have extremely oily hair and I’m able to go days without washing. It’s head and shoulders bare. It has minimal ingredients and all of them are natural too. My dandruff was so much better even after the first wash.
