What have you learned through 2025?

I think I learned a lot this year. My biggest takeaway has been I can do the hard things I’m scared of.

I am not a cook by any means. I’ve always had a fear of burning myself. This year, I’ve started to gradually cook more. It started off small and easy. Now I’m using the oven. Still a little fear in there but not nearly as much!

I gave birth in August and I knew I was terrified for that. I had a great nurse team who had me until the final push and baby was out.

Another big takeaway was not letting anxiety define me. I think this year, there were moments I let that anxiety I have and feel kind of deter me from living. One day I said I’m over it and I just kind of started doing instead. Pushing past the anxiety.

Going into 2026, I’m taking the lessons I’ve learned in 2025 and not forgetting them.

What are some things you’ve learned through 2025?

... Read moreReflecting on the themes of overcoming fear and anxiety shared in this article, many people find that 2025 was a pivotal year for personal growth. For instance, taking small steps to face fears—like learning to cook despite the fear of burning oneself—can build confidence and resilience gradually. Cooking is a great metaphor for facing challenges; starting with simple tasks and progressing to more complex ones, like using the oven, shows gradual mastery and increased courage. The experience of childbirth mentioned reflects a profound life event that many can relate to as a mixture of fear and empowerment. Having a supportive team, such as skilled nurses and loved ones, often makes a significant difference in the experience and outcome. Anxiety can be a major barrier in daily living, but the example of pushing past anxiety to keep moving forward is a universal lesson in mental health. Small moments of choosing action despite fear lead to growth and can prevent anxiety from dictating one’s life. These personal insights encourage embracing discomfort as a pathway to freedom and a richer life. As we look ahead to 2026, holding onto these lessons about facing fears—whether cooking, childbirth, or anxiety—and remembering that hard things are achievable can motivate anyone to keep growing. What makes these lessons valuable is their authenticity: they highlight real challenges and how incremental progress changed the author’s perspective. Readers might consider journaling their own experiences with fear or anxiety this year to track growth and prepare for the year ahead. By sharing such reflections, we create a community of mutual support where people realize they are not alone in their fears or struggles. Embracing openness and vulnerability, as this article does, enriches our collective ability to learn and evolve.
