I realized that adequate protein is essential to maintain muscle mass and strength, especially as we age. Another important lesson I learned was to not only control oil and salt but also pay attention to getting enough calcium and vitamin D. I noticed that when I ignored these nutrients, my bones started feeling brittle, which increased the risk of fractures. Supplementing vitamin D and consuming calcium-rich foods helped improve my bone density and overall resilience. Additionally, I once indulged too much in sweets, which caused chronically high blood sugar and issues like numbness and soreness in the soles of my feet. This experience taught me the importance of balanced sugar intake to support healthy nerve and blood supply. Ultimately, our bodies reflect what we feed them. If the goal is to continue walking independently and healthily in your 70s, it’s crucial to eat right—enough protein, vitamins, and minerals—rather than just restricting calories or fats. Healthy aging relies on a balanced diet that supports muscles, bones, and nerves, helping us stay active and strong longer.
