5 lies anxiety tells your brain

4/13 Edited to

... Read moreFrom personal experience, recognizing these anxiety-driven thoughts has been a game changer in how I handle relationships. For instance, the first lie—"the silence means something is wrong"—often triggered overwhelming worry for me. Yet, understanding that my nervous system is just replaying past patterns helped me pause and question that fear instead of immediately jumping to conclusions. The urge to 'check in' constantly, described as hypervigilance, felt exhausting but by realizing it’s my nervous system trying to force resolution, I learned to tolerate uncertainty better. Using simple mindfulness and grounding techniques has allowed me to regulate these feelings before reacting, which has saved many conversations from unnecessary conflict. The belief that "if they really knew you, they'd leave" spoke deeply to my anxious attachment patterns. Over time, I've come to see that vulnerability is not a weakness but a path to genuine connection. It helped to remember that these anxious predictions are based on earlier experiences and not current realities. Tools like journaling, Body Scan meditation, and apps that monitor nervous system states, such as Groundly mentioned in the article, can support calming your system. This approach of calming first before action has made my emotional responses more balanced. In essence, learning these lies animals our anxiety tells us empowers us to respond with kindness towards ourselves and others, fostering healthier relationships and inner peace.
