How to feel safe?

2 days agoEdited to

... Read moreFeeling safe is more about internalizing a sense of security than constantly seeking external reassurance. Many people struggle with the reassurance loop, where they depend on others to confirm their safety, which inadvertently trains the nervous system to be reactive and dependent rather than resilient. Through personal experience, I realized that true felt safety is a bodily sensation that comes from within, not a passing thought or external validation. To break free from this loop, it’s important to focus on self-regulation techniques that help the nervous system settle naturally. Techniques such as mindful breathing, grounding exercises, and body scans can teach your nervous system to relax and recognize safety cues internally. Over time, this builds a reliable internal foundation of safety that reduces anxiety and dependence on others. One helpful tool I found was an app like Groundly, which supports identifying and meeting your nervous system’s needs without waiting for external reassurance. This approach gradually shifts you from feeling overwhelmed by anxiety to feeling empowered to manage your own emotional state. Importantly, feeling safe is a process built through repeated successful self-regulation efforts rather than a one-time fix. Incorporating these insights into daily routine requires patience and self-compassion, but the outcome is a more balanced and confident nervous system that doesn’t outsource its sense of calm. Instead, you learn to respond to triggers with self-soothing strategies that reinforce an internal sense of safety. This transformation not only improves anxiety relief but also strengthens overall emotional resilience and wellbeing.
