5-Day AI App Course for Parents | Build a Real App With Your Kid 8-12 | Free PDF

🪺 A 5-day mini-course for parents who want to build something real with their kid this summer. Free, no coding needed, ready to print.

Who this is for:

— Parents of kids 8-12 (works for teens too — deeper teen version coming)

— Homeschoolers looking for real-world summer projects

— Grandparents who want a meaningful screen-time alternative

— Teachers exploring AI tools for the classroom

— Any parent who’s heard about AI and wants their kid to make with it, not just consume it

What you and your kid will have by Friday:

🪺 One real, working app

🌐 A live URL they can text grandma

💪 A different relationship with technology that will last

The 5-day framework:

Day 1 — Idea 💡

Your kid finishes three sentences: “I love it when…”, “I wish there was…”, “It would be cool if…” Their answers become the idea.

Day 2 — Validate 🔍

Open Claude (free). Paste the idea. The AI pushes back, suggests cuts, names what could go wrong. Your kid sees AI as a thinking partner — not a magic box.

Day 3 — Build 🔧

Open Lovable (or Bolt, or v0 — all free). Paste the master prompt. Within minutes, software appears out of words. This is the day your kid remembers.

Day 4 — Refine ✨

Your kid uses the first version. You watch. Their reactions become your next 2-3 prompts. The first version is fast — the version worth keeping takes the longest.

Day 5 — Ship 🚀

Hit “Share” in your builder, or deploy free on Vercel for a real URL. Send it to one person who matters. Most adults never build and ship a real app in their whole life. Your kid just did.

Total cost: $0. Every tool has a free tier.

Total time: 20-40 minutes a day.

What’s in the PDF:

17 pages. Every prompt written out. Every troubleshooting tip. A bonus 10-question “Make Your Own Idea” worksheet for kids who want to design a second app. Three appendices: 5 more app ideas, a tool comparison (Claude / ChatGPT / Perplexity / Grok), and a hosting walkthrough (Vercel / Netlify / one-click).

Comment KID and I’ll DM you the PDF. Free, printable, no email required.

Save this for summer. 🪺

... Read moreAs a parent who recently explored this 5-day AI app course with my 10-year-old, I can share how empowering the experience was for both of us. Starting with simple prompts like “I love it when…” allowed my child to express creativity naturally, making the project their own. Using Claude AI to validate ideas introduced them to critical thinking by showing that AI challenges ideas rather than just accepting them blindly. This helped demystify AI as a cooperative tool, which is an invaluable lesson in today’s tech-driven world. On Day 3, watching the app take shape through platforms like Lovable was truly magical for my child. Seeing words transform into a working app boosted their confidence immensely. The refinement process on Day 4 encouraged patience and iteration, while the deployment step on Day 5 created a proud moment when our app went live with a real URL to share with family. Utilizing free tools and following a manageable 20-40 minute-a-day timeframe makes this course accessible without added stress. The included PDF, with all prompts and troubleshooting tips, was a helpful resource, making it easy to guide and support the learning journey. For homeschoolers, teachers, and grandparents, this structured yet flexible framework offers a meaningful and engaging alternative to passive screen time. Building an app together like this didn’t just teach coding basics or AI concepts—it reshaped our relationship with technology. It empowered my child to be a creator, not just a consumer, nurturing problem-solving and tech curiosity that will last beyond summer. I highly recommend giving this a try to anyone wanting to ignite their child’s interest in STEM and AI with a fun, guided, and supportive path.
