exfoliating 101 - Tips for how to exfoliate

Exfoliating the right way makes such a big difference for smooth, healthy skin ✨

Physical exfoliation (like dry brushing, scrubs, and loofahs) removes dead skin manually, while chemical exfoliants work by dissolving it — no harsh scrubbing needed.

✨ Key tip: More exfoliation ≠ better skin. Overdoing it can cause irritation, dryness, and breakouts. Always follow up with a good moisturizer and sunscreen if your skin is exposed ☀️

Save this for your body care routine 💛

... Read moreWhen I first started incorporating exfoliation into my skincare routine, I quickly realized that knowing the right method and frequency is crucial. Dry brushing, for instance, is a fantastic way to boost circulation and help with flaky, dry skin, but it's important to use a natural bristle brush and work gently in upward strokes toward the heart to avoid redness or irritation. Limiting dry brushing to once or twice a week worked best for me. Sugar and salt scrubs are perfect for smoothing rough textures, especially on legs and arms. I found that sugar scrubs, being gentler, suited my sensitive skin better than salt scrubs, which felt too intense and could cause irritation if used on freshly shaved skin. Massaging lightly rather than scrubbing hard really makes a difference. Using these scrubs in the shower made the process easier and less messy. Loofahs and body scrubbers offer another form of physical exfoliation that helped me remove dead skin effectively. Using light pressure with body wash, and replacing my loofah regularly to avoid bacteria buildup, prevented irritation and kept my skin feeling fresh. I limited use to two or three times per week to avoid over-exfoliation. Chemical exfoliants introduced a new level of skin improvement. Products containing lactic acid, glycolic acid, or salicylic acid target bumps and refine texture without the need for harsh scrubbing. Starting slowly with 2-3 times per week helped my skin adjust without causing dryness or breakouts. I always applied these on clean, dry skin and followed up with a moisturizer containing ceramides to support the skin barrier. Nighttime application worked best for me, especially since these acids can increase sun sensitivity. One key lesson is that more exfoliation does not equal better skin. Overdoing it can lead to irritation, dryness, and breakouts. Following exfoliation with a good moisturizer and daily sunscreen protection is essential to maintain healthy skin. Adding exfoliation thoughtfully into your body care routine can transform your skin’s texture and radiance while keeping it safe and nourished.

I have the loofah body scrubber gloves but I'm not sure if it works when I use it?? In most videos I see, you can see the dead skin but nothing is there when I use it 🤷🏽‍♀️
