Releasing the self judgment about “procrastination”
I love this mantra— when I know, I know. And when I knows I GO.
Trusting in your timing & don’t be afraid to ask for support
Living with ADHD often means navigating a different relationship with time and productivity than what society expects. One of the most common misconceptions is that procrastination is simply laziness or poor discipline, but for many with ADHD, it's part of a unique cognitive style that can actually enhance creativity. From my own experience, what feels like procrastination is sometimes a necessary mental incubation period. It's during these moments of seeming 'doing nothing' that my brain is silently connecting diverse ideas and gathering insights. Rather than rushing the process, I’ve learned to honor this timing as essential to producing work that truly reflects my creative potential. The mantra “When I know, I know. And when I know, I GO” captures this shift beautifully. It emphasizes the power of trusting your internal cues over external pressures. This trust reduces the stress of deadlines and makes space for more authentic productivity. Also, reaching out for support—whether to friends, mentors, or professionals—can provide valuable perspective and encouragement, preventing the overwhelm that sometimes fuels procrastination. The key is to stop harsh self-judgment. ADHD brains uniquely weave together many pieces of information in unconventional ways, leading to innovative outcomes. Recognizing procrastination not as failure but as part of a dynamic creative process helps foster self-compassion and unlock personal strengths. This mindset transforms procrastination from a source of guilt into a wellspring of magic and creativity.
