One of the lessons I’ve really been integrating as I’m world building with House of Muse is that it’s okay to forget & then remember all over again.
Part of having ADHD for me means that I struggle with my working memory. I get super frustrated with myself when I can’t remember all of the pieces at the same time.
It’s been challenging for me to navigate, but I realized that I NEED visual cues.
I LIVE FOR FLOW CHARTS as a means of outline & structure.
So the past few months I’ve really been sorting out all of my vision, and bringing the pieces together and it feels soooooo fkn good to see it all coming together 🥹
Living with ADHD often means grappling with working memory difficulties, making complex tasks like world building especially challenging. I’ve found that integrating visual aids, especially flowcharts, transforms how I organize and retain information. Flowcharts serve as a dynamic roadmap for my creative process. They allow me to break down vast, intricate concepts into manageable sections that visually connect. This approach helps me keep track of multiple story elements without feeling overwhelmed or losing critical details. Whenever I feel my memory faltering, I can easily refer back to my flowchart, which acts as an external memory bank tailored specifically to how my brain processes information. Creating a 'North Star Brand' or central theme within the flowchart has been a game changer. It anchors all my ideas, ensuring every component aligns with a core vision. This strategy not only boosts my productivity but also reduces the frustration that comes with forgetting critical pieces unexpectedly. For others with ADHD, I recommend experimenting with different visual tools—mind maps, color-coded outlines, or digital apps designed for flowchart creation. The key is finding what resonates with your cognitive style to improve memory retention and promote clearer thinking. Ultimately, embracing tools that compensate for working memory challenges can make world building not just feasible but thoroughly enjoyable. When you see all your creative parts coming together visually, it brings a satisfying sense of accomplishment and clarity, empowering you to continue building your imaginative worlds confidently.
