College tips

1. Find a place to study other than your dorm/house/apt my favorite is a coffee shop.

2. Workout consistently and find a routine that works for you… this truly changed my life and allowed me to have such a better perspective on routine.

3. Write everything about your schedule down. I like to take a day before my classes start and just write down everything about the class including professor, room, section, and all of the due dates. This truly changed my organization and allowed me to stop missing assignments and deadlines.

4. Write down your goals and to do list every single day.

... Read moreHey everyone! So, you're looking for college tips, right? I remember starting out, and honestly, if I could go back, there's so much I wish I knew at 18. The main article gives some fantastic practical tips on studying and routine, but let's dive a little deeper into the stuff that truly impacted my journey – the less-talked-about, but equally crucial, aspects of thriving in college. First off, let's talk about the immense pressure we face to know exactly what we want to do for the rest of our lives at 18. It's wild! I actually changed my major five times before finding my true calling. And guess what? That's completely okay! College is a time for exploration. Don't feel locked into a decision just because you declared it freshman year. Take different classes, join various clubs, and allow yourself the freedom to explore passions you never knew you had. It’s part of figuring out what YOU want, not what you think you should want. Embrace the journey of self-discovery; it’s one of the biggest takeaways from college. Secondly, and this is a big one for me: learn to follow your dreams and make your own path. It's so easy to get caught up in what friends or family expect of you. For instance, I almost went into the medical field because that's what was expected, but deep down, it wasn't my correct path. If I had followed that route, I wouldn't be where I am today, truly happy and fulfilled. Your college years are a prime opportunity to define success on your own terms. Don't just do what everyone else is doing. Take the time to reflect on your genuine interests and values, and then bravely pursue them, even if it means stepping off the beaten path. No one else gets to live your life, so make sure it’s a life that genuinely excites you. Third, while the main article touches on routine, let's extend that to building resilience. Moving out at 18 and navigating college life independently taught me so much. There will be tough days, unexpected challenges, and moments when you feel completely overwhelmed. Learning to bounce back, solve problems on your own, and ask for help when needed are invaluable skills. It's about building a solid foundation of self-reliance while also understanding the importance of a strong support system. Find your people – friends, mentors, or even campus resources – who genuinely uplift and support your unique journey. Lastly, beyond just academic success, prioritize your mental well-being. College is hard, and it’s okay to admit that. While consistent workouts (as mentioned in the main article) are fantastic for physical and mental health, also ensure you're practicing self-compassion. Don't burn yourself out. Schedule downtime, explore hobbies outside of your studies, and don't hesitate to seek counseling services if you're struggling. This holistic approach ensures you not only excel academically but also emerge from college as a well-rounded, resilient individual ready to take on the world. Remember, these years are about growth in every sense of the word!
