College lessons: dreams.

2/5 Edited to

... Read moreThroughout my college years, I realized that not every experience or thought needs to be rigidly documented. This is especially true when it comes to dreams, both literal and metaphorical. The article touches on an important practice: knowing when not to write things down. From my personal journey, I've found that trying to capture every dream or fleeting idea often leads to overthinking and a loss of the natural flow of inspiration. For example, I used to write down every detail of my dreams as soon as I woke up, hoping to analyze them later. But over time, this felt more like a chore and less like a creative or insightful exercise. Sometimes, the preciousness of a dream lies in its fleeting quality—the moment it lingers in your mind before it fades naturally. In college, where schedules are packed and stress is high, learning when to observe and when to let go of that urge to record everything became a valuable lesson. This approach also extends metaphorically to our college aspirations and daily experiences. Not every goal or ambition needs to be spelled out with exact steps right away. There’s power in holding onto dreams with a bit of mystery and allowing them to evolve organically. Some peers joked about writing down things like "GPA 4.0" or "lottery winner $35,000" but opting not to record superficial or unrealistic ideas helped me focus on meaningful desires. Additionally, I've found that balancing reflection with spontaneity boosts mental wellness. By not writing down every anxiety or fear, I sometimes reduce pressure, allowing myself space to breathe and grow. College is not just about learning from textbooks but also learning to understand your inner rhythms and trust in your intuition. In summary, this lesson of knowing when not to write down your dreams taught me to value the moment and the mystery of personal growth. It’s a subtle but powerful tool for anyone navigating the complexities of college life and dreaming big without feeling overwhelmed by the need to capture everything on paper.
