Lessons I learned in College 📚👩🏾‍💻🎓

Now that school is back in session, I wanted to share some words of wisdom based on the experiences I learned from throughout my time in college.

1. Know your limits

Don’t overload yourself just because you’re “technically free.” Learn to say no, under-commit, and over-perform instead of burning out.

2. Comparison is the thief of joy

Stop measuring yourself against others—especially on LinkedIn 😭. Success looks different for everyone, and your time will come.

3. Find what works for you

Study habits, routines, and learning speeds vary. Don’t copy someone else’s formula—figure out your own.

4. Balance is key

Balance won’t necessarily mean equal time everywhere—it means prioritizing what matters most to you in the moment.

5. Bounce back from setbacks

Failing a class or dropping one isn’t the end. Learn, adjust, and keep moving. College throws L’s fast—don’t dwell too long.

6. Your GPA doesn’t define you

Experience, leadership, and involvement often matter more (depending on your field). Your worth goes beyond grades.

7. College will humble you

Even straight-A high schoolers have to put in real work once major classes kick in.

8. Use your time wisely

Do small assignments early, don’t procrastinate on big ones, and communicate with professors if you’re stuck—they’re often more understanding than you’d think.

9. Ask for help

Whether it’s tutoring, mental health, or a campus resource—you’re paying for it, so use it. (And never turn down free food.)

10. Surround yourself with the right people

Be around those who inspire you, push you, and root for you. Compete together, not against each other.

11. Say yes to opportunities

Join the club, apply for the job, go abroad—better to learn from experiences than wonder “what if.”

12. Time flies

The days feel long, but the years are short. Make the most of it.

I may make this a series where I go more in-depth into each point (I’ve been SLACKING on posting on this app the past couple months 😭). Looking back, there’s so many things I wish I would’ve known when I started freshman year. Hopefully this will be helpful to anyone this comes across, feel free to ask questions as well! 🫶🏾
