LEVEL UP MY LIFE: day 1

hello everyone! time for a new series! thank u to everyone who watched me unfuck my life for ~50 days! i went to christmas with my family, new years at home in MA, and another weekend in NYC for my friend’s wedding. i haven’t had a whole lot of time to post on lemon8 doing all of that, but as of today u have some more time!

i’m starting a new series, leveling up my life, that’s a spiritual successor to that project. unfucking my life was about figuring out how to get started creating habits in my life and challenging my deep seated agoraphobia that tends to come along with my seasonal depression.

this new project is focused on habit stacking, and holding myself accountable to those stacked habits that i started developing during that era in 2023. i chose to start now, 18 days into january, because the first 2 weeks of january is usually the “new years resolution” phase before everyone gives up. i’m challenging that energy by starting now, even though i have been working on these things in the past two weeks.

what are the habits i’m stacking?

- 10K steps per day

- 2 barre classes/week

- 2 reformer pilates classes/ week

- 3 days of weight training/ week

- building out my skincare routine for my face and body

- building out my haircare routine

- maintaining a healthy diet (with less takeout/eating out)

- cultivating a mindfulness routine (right now i meditate on average once/week. i want to expand that)

- cultivating more of a gratitude and journaling routine

- read 30 books this year!

this morning, for breakfast gill and i made green smoothies! they were delightful! i started my morning at the gym for bi/tri day, and i did standing kettlebell abs! when i came home, i adjusted my schedule in my planner to reflect my morning. at nights, i plan out my intended day and adjust as i go.

i read some of the fiction book i’m currently reading, iron flame! i finished the previous book, fourth wing, two weeks ago! it was a delight. i’ve already finished 2/30 books for the year, so i will keep you all updated on my reading journey!

i have meetings every week, so in order to make my 10K step goal more compatible with my remote job, i have started walking during my meetings! it’s a great way for me to get closer to my goals.

leveling up my life isn’t about changing my body so much as expanding my routine to include more things to improve my overall wellbeing. my therapist and i have a goal of turning towards fulfillment, which all of this is in service of!

I love blending ingredients like fresh spinach or kale, a stalk of celery, maybe some aloe vera for an extra gut boost, and then adding a handful of frozen blueberries and strawberries for sweetness and antioxidants. This concoction truly feels like a daily dose of goodness, waking up my system and getting me ready for whatever the day throws my way. It’s a fantastic way to kickstart your healthy diet goals right from breakfast, ensuring you start with a nutrient-dense meal. But the world of wellness shots goes beyond just green smoothies. Have you ever tried a concentrated ginger shot? They're fantastic for digestion, can help with nausea, and give you a spicy, invigorating kick that truly wakes you up. Or what about turmeric shots, known for their powerful anti-inflammatory properties, perfect for soothing muscles after a good 'gym time' workout? Even a simple shot of apple cider vinegar diluted in water can work wonders for some people, aiding digestion and balancing blood sugar. The key is finding what resonates with your body and what you can consistently incorporate without feeling overwhelmed, making it a sustainable part of your morning. Integrating these small but mighty habits into an already busy schedule can seem daunting, but it's totally doable with a little planning. For instance, I've found that preparing my smoothie ingredients the night before saves so much time in the morning – just dump and blend! And for those who work remotely, like me, making the most of your 'gym time' or even just getting in those steps using a walking pad during meetings, as seen in some of my daily planning, can be a game-changer. It’s all about creatively fitting these boosts into your existing structure. My planner is my best friend for this, helping me map out my intentions for the day, whether it’s a quick workout, a moment of meditation, or reading a few pages of a good book like 'Iron Flame' during a break. Ultimately, a 'wellness shot morning routine' is about creating a holistic start to your day. It’s not just about the drink itself, but the intention behind it – to nourish your body, energize your mind, and set a positive tone for all your 'level up' goals.
