When Life Gets Heavy, Love Yourself More 💖

Honestly, cousins, the posts you see? They’re not all of me. Towards the end of last year and the start of this one, I was in a dark place—battling depression and feeling stuck. I wasn’t struggling financially, but emotionally, I was drained. I kept asking myself: What’s next? Am I enough? Why am I not further along?

Being the “strong one” for everyone else? It’s exhausting. I poured so much into others—my time, energy, even finances—that I had nothing left for me. And when I hit my lowest, I looked around and realized… no one was showing up for me.

💔 My birthday in February hit hard—my friends didn’t show, my best friend and I weren’t talking. The one person there? My brother. He’ll never know how much that meant. A couple of months later, my California bestie asked me: “How are you really?” For the first time, I felt seen. I broke down and let it out, and she showed up for me in ways I’ll never forget.

By summer, I was slowly finding myself again. I had stopped caring for myself—stopped dressing up, wearing makeup, or even doing my hair just to feel good. The girl who used to get cute just for a Target run had disappeared. But stepping out with friends reminded me of what I’d been missing. That small moment sparked something in me: Girl, you need to love on yourself more.

🌸 I started treating myself again:

Wearing my basic lip combo (brown liner + NYX Butter Gloss in Fortune Cookie)—it’s simple but gives me life.

Picking out new perfumes like Burberry Her Elixir Intense to remind myself I deserve to feel luxurious.

Taking myself out on solo Target dates, grabbing lunch, and just soaking in little joys.

✨ My winter glow-up plan? Hydration, skincare, and self-care. I’m obsessed with my current lineup:

Cleansing oil to melt the day away.

Retinol and Vitamin C for radiant skin.

Fenty Black Cherry Lip Oil for a juicy, hydrated pout.

Cousins, if you’ve been struggling too, let me remind you: don’t stop loving yourself. Don’t give more to others than you give to yourself. You can’t pour from an empty cup. Find small ways to bring joy back—dress up, buy the flowers, wear the perfume. And if you’re battling depression, please find an outlet. Therapy, journaling, or even confiding in a trusted friend can make a world of difference.

This year reminded me that life gets heavy, but showing up for yourself is the ultimate act of love. 💕

✨ What’s your favorite way to love on yourself? Let me know in the comments. Let’s inspire each other! 💬

... Read moreWhen life gets heavy, practicing self-love becomes essential. Many individuals face periods of emotional turmoil, feeling overwhelmed and drained. It is crucial to remember that nurturing oneself is not selfish; it's necessary to maintain one's mental health. Techniques to embrace self-love include creating personal rituals that promote joy, such as dressing up, indulging in favorite scents, or treating oneself to solo outings. It's important to surround yourself with people who uplift you—friends who genuinely care and notice when something is wrong are invaluable. Additionally, seeking professional help through therapy can provide effective coping strategies and support during tough times. Engaging in reflective practices like journaling can also guide you back to your inner self, allowing you to unpack emotions and track your progress. Above all, remind yourself that you are worthy of love and joy. Establish boundaries that prioritize your needs and make room for self-care. Remember, you can't pour from an empty cup, and investing in your happiness is vital for a fulfilling life.
