New Study About Vegans and Trauma

2025/2/21 Edited to

... Read moreRecent research has sparked interest in the relationship between trauma and dietary choices, particularly plant-based diets. This study, involving a nationally representative sample of individuals in the United States, has revealed noteworthy insights. It found that those with a history of intimate partner violence (IPV) are significantly more likely to adopt a plant-based lifestyle. Specifically, the analysis suggests that individuals who have experienced trauma across their lifespan may turn to veganism as a form of self-medication for mental health issues. The study's data indicates that experiencing trauma increases the likelihood of adhering to a plant-based diet, with participants having a 1.09 times greater chance of being plant-based if they reported any such experiences. This adds an important dimension to our understanding of veganism, highlighting not just its ethical and health implications, but also its potential connections to psychological well-being. As the conversation around mental health and lifestyle choices evolves, this research could help inform future discussions on the benefits of vegan diets in the context of trauma recovery.
