... Read moreAs someone deeply interested in the Canadian startup ecosystem, I’ve noticed firsthand how fluctuations in venture capital (VC) directly affect emerging businesses. The recent drop to only one notable venture capital deal in the first quarter of 2026, totaling about one million dollars, signals a cautious sentiment among investors. This shift comes as many private investors reassess risk amidst evolving economic conditions. One trend I’ve observed is startups increasingly considering going public earlier through IPOs to raise capital instead of depending heavily on VC funding. This approach can offer more financial stability but also comes with the pressures of market scrutiny and regulatory compliance. Furthermore, Quebec’s prominence in leading private investment activity highlights the region’s strong innovation hubs and possibly more supportive local policies. Companies based there might have better access to funding compared to other provinces, which could lead to uneven growth across Canada’s tech landscape. In my experience, reduced venture capital availability often translates into slower growth phases or challenges in scaling operations for startups, especially those in highly competitive markets. It becomes crucial for founders to pivot strategies, optimize operations, and seek diverse funding sources, including government grants, angel investors, or partnerships. Overall, while the drop in VC investment volume since 2017 might look alarming, it also pushes Canadian startups to improve resilience, refine value propositions, and explore alternative financial pathways. For entrepreneurs and investors alike, understanding these dynamics can help navigate the current economic environment more effectively.

I CANNOT BELIEVE I found this underrated side hustle so recently. I started doing userinterviews for surveys, focus groups, and interviews. They're HIGHLY TARGETED, unlike those from Leo, Swagbucks, Usertesting, etc. These ones pay on average $40-150 EACH for like 30-60 minutes of your time.
