NARA DEER PARK 🇯🇵 🤩

Hiii friends 🥹🤍

So I’m in Japan right now!!!

And today I went to Nara Park —located in Kyoto! It is FILLED with deer everywhere and you get to feed them crackers!!! I didn’t end up getting a lot of photos, but I was able to get a few (i took more videos)

The park was super big and fun! But I will say that some of the deer are kind of aggressive. Once you give them a cracker, they’ll follow you around and even try to head-butt you while you’re walking away afterwards. Or nip at your bag and/or sweaters 😖

I’ve noticed that I tend to disappear when I go on vacations, I’m sorry 😭 but I’m very much a live-in-the-moment type of person! I have been taking a bunch of pictures and videos though. And plan to upload a Japan vlog to my YouTube channel once I get back to the states!!! I hope you’ve all been doing well 🌷💕🌸

... Read moreMy trip to Nara Park was truly one of the most memorable parts of my Japan adventure! Seeing hundreds of wild deer roaming freely was absolutely magical, and getting to interact with them up close was an experience I won't soon forget. If you're planning a visit, especially for the famous deer feeding, here are some extra tips and insights from my personal encounters. First off, the deer crackers, known as 'shika senbei,' are sold by vendors all around the park. It's really cool to know that the crackers you buy are made specifically for the deer! They’re formulated to be safe for them, so please don't try to feed them anything else. I bought a stack, and the deer immediately sensed it! Getting a close-up look at these beautiful creatures as they approached was incredible. Now, about feeding them: these deer are smart! Many have learned to bow their heads to ask for crackers, which is absolutely adorable and a must-see for tourist feeding experiences. If a deer bows to you, try to bow back – it's a fun interaction! However, as much as I loved feeding *a cute family of deer*, remember what I mentioned in my main post: some can be a little persistent, especially when they know you have food. I definitely had moments where one *stole a cracker out of my hand LOL*! To manage this, I found it best to hold out one cracker at a time, flat on your palm. Once you’ve given them a cracker, open both your hands to show you have no more. Sometimes, they might still follow you or nudge you, but if you walk away confidently, they usually lose interest. It’s all part of the Nara Park deer with visitors experience! Don't be surprised if you have a deer getting very friendly, even up to your face for a treat. These Nara Park deer close up moments are fantastic for photos, but always be mindful of their expressions. They are wild animals, after all. I managed to get the best photo I took of a deer bowing. I also learned that if you want a calmer experience, try going earlier in the morning or later in the afternoon when fewer crowds mean less competition for the deer. Some deer seemed calmer than others; I remember one nice deer that I happily fed three crackers to! While the park is indeed huge and there are deer everywhere, the main areas around Todai-ji Temple are where you'll find the highest concentration and the most eager feeders. Just remember to enjoy the unique interaction, but also respect their natural behavior. It’s truly a special place to witness free roaming deer in such an accessible way. This trip from Kyoto to Nara was absolutely worth it for this unforgettable encounter!
