While the devotional helped me so much with the preparation phase, I’ve found that the real work—and joy—begins when you step into the covenant. For any woman wondering what it truly means to embody the role of a godly wife, beyond just waiting, I want to share some insights from my own experiences.
After saying 'I do,' I quickly realized that the spiritual foundations I'd built were crucial for navigating the realities of married life. It’s one thing to prepare your heart, and another to live it out daily. For me, truly embracing The Virtuous Plan for marriage means continuous surrender and leaning into God’s wisdom, not just in big moments but in the everyday.
One key aspect of being a virtuous wife, I've learned, is cultivating patience and forgiveness. Marriage brings two imperfect people together, and there will inevitably be disagreements and misunderstandings. Instead of reacting out of emotion, I've learned to pause, pray, and ask myself, 'How would God have me respond in this moment?' It's about seeing my husband through God’s eyes, extending grace, and remembering that love 'keeps no record of wrongs.' This mindset shift has been transformative for our relationship.
Another profound realization has been the ongoing power of spiritually covering my husband. The devotional taught me to do this before marriage, and I’ve continued this practice with even greater intentionality within marriage. Whether he's facing challenges at work, struggling with a decision, or simply needs strength, I make it a point to pray for him daily. I pray for his protection, his wisdom, his peace, and his walk with God. There’s an incredible sense of peace and strength that comes from knowing you are actively supporting your spouse in the spiritual realm. It deepening our intimacy and reminds us that we are a team, not just physically but spiritually.
Being a godly wife also means embracing intentional communication. It's not just about talking, but truly listening and seeking to understand. We make time for regular check-ins, where we can share our hearts, our struggles, and our dreams without judgment. It’s in these moments that we truly connect and reinforce our bond.
Finally, I’ve learned to embrace the journey of continuous growth. No one is a perfect wife, and there will always be areas where I can grow and become more like Christ. It's about extending the same grace to myself that I extend to my husband. The journey of being a virtuous wife is about progress, not perfection, and finding joy in the everyday blessings and lessons that come with building a life together under God's loving guidance.
