Where do I start? I’ve been in the Navy for nearly a decade, and I can’t believe how time has flown by. I joined the Navy for the opportunities, with the biggest one being able to go to school for free, get my own money, and travel. I was also granted U.S. citizenship after completing boot camp. I’ve seen so much, learned a lot, and plan to make an impact by helping junior sailors and becoming a better leader.
I’m a mom and wife, and let me tell you,I’ve had a lot of good times and some tough ones. The hardest part of the job is being away from family, sometimes it’s duty days, underways (out at sea), or deployments. It gets challenging when your child is sick, and you still have to show up to work, relying on friends to help because family is hours away from where you’re stationed.
Coming home to my family at the end of the day makes it all worth it. It’s that moment that reminds me why I do what I do for myself and for them.
But despite the tough days, I remind myself of why I’m here. The Navy has given me so much, and I’m proud of what I’m doing. It’s not just about me, it’s about paving the way for others and showing that we belong here too.
