What you should do first before buying new things

When we start on a new journey, we are eager to jump right in without seeing if we are ready to do something long-term.

As I scroll through social media comments of videos from people who are showing their equipment, I've seen viewers comment things like, "I have this item, and it's been in my closet for months."

I can't help but to think why they bought this item if they were not going to use it often?

This made me realize that the first and most important step to any journey that you decide to take is to use the tools that you already have and to develop the discipline and be consistent with it for at least 30 to 90 days.

After those days are up, you can then think if you are ready to invest in better equipment.

By doing this, you save time, money, and energy when it comes to knowing if this is something you would like to do in the long run.

I first purchased my first camera in 2019, and I decided to take content creation seriously in 2023.

Between those years, I've been taking pictures and videos in the community.

However, when it came to content creation with the camera I was using, I was wondering if I should invest in another camera that had a flip screen, and that is a bit smaller.

But before I made that purchase, I wanted to make sure that documenting my journey as a content creator who is a journalist is something I would like to do for the long term.

So I decided to film myself with the camera. I already have to see if this is something I wanted to do.

After months of content creation, I decided to invest in my dream camera.

I'm so glad I took that route in developing the discipline to create first before I decided to invest in the equipment.

By doing so, my purchase of the new equipment won't be in vain.

... Read moreBefore making any investment in new equipment, such as cameras or tools, it's crucial to evaluate your existing resources. Taking the time to familiarize yourself with the tools you already possess helps prevent spontaneous purchases that may go unused. Many individuals fall into the trap of acquiring equipment without a clear understanding of their needs or commitment to a new hobby or profession. By dedicating 30 to 90 days to using your current tools, you can assess your passion and effectiveness in the space before upgrading. This approach not only promotes discipline and consistency, but it also helps to cut down on unnecessary spending by ensuring any investment is truly meaningful. Another excellent strategy is to document your journey. By filming your experiences, you create a clear timeline of your progress and can evaluate if you need higher-grade equipment. This reflective practice allows you to determine if you genuinely enjoy content creation or any other pursuit you may be considering. Moreover, researching and getting advice from communities or online forums about the best equipment suitable for your skill level and needs can guide your future purchase decisions. Incorporating these practices leads to more informed choices that align with your long-term goals and minimizes buyer's remorse, ensuring every investment counts towards your growth.
