... Read moreIt’s truly incredible to look back and see how far my VTuber character has come since 2023. When I first started out, I had a vision, but like any creative project, it's been a journey of learning, adapting, and growing. This linear evolution, step by step, has been so rewarding!
My blue-haired VTuber character initially sported a more casual, yet edgy, look in 2023. She was designed with a black hoodie and distinctive bat wings, giving her a mysterious and perhaps a bit playful vibe. It was an aesthetic that felt right at the time, reflecting my initial foray into the VTubing world. I wanted something approachable but still unique, and those bat wings really helped her stand out. I spent a lot of time getting the proportions just right, making sure the hair flowed naturally, and that the overall expression conveyed a sense of hidden fun.
Fast forward to 2025, and you can see a significant transformation. This wasn't a sudden overhaul but a thoughtful, linear progression. I found myself wanting to refine her look, to give her more depth and detail as my own skills as an artist and my channel's direction matured. The detailed jacket, for instance, was a huge step. It added layers and texture, moving away from the simpler hoodie. Choosing the right fabric textures and folds for the jacket took a lot of experimentation, but I think it paid off. And the multiple chokers? Those were a deliberate choice to add a bit more punk rock flair, balancing the slightly more sophisticated jacket with an edgy accessory. It’s all about finding that perfect blend of personality and style.
One of the most striking changes, to me, is her expression. From the earlier design, she’s evolved to sport a clearly happy expression now. This wasn't just an artistic decision; it genuinely reflects how much joy I've found in VTubing and connecting with my community. My character's happiness is a direct mirror of my own. I also love adding subtle nods to things I enjoy, which is why you might spot elements from 'Squid Game' in her background or props. It’s a fun way to incorporate my interests and create a richer, more personal world for my VTuber.
The process of this linear VTuber evolution involved countless hours of sketching, digital painting, and rigging. There were moments of frustration, of course, when a certain design element just wasn't clicking. But seeing the vision come to life, piece by piece, has been incredibly motivating. It taught me the importance of patience and iteration in character design. For anyone looking to evolve their own VTuber, my advice is to embrace the journey. Don't be afraid to experiment, to step outside your initial comfort zone, and to let your character grow alongside you. Think about the story you want your character's design to tell, and how each new detail contributes to that narrative. What do you want your VTuber to represent in the next few years? It's a continuous, incredibly fun creative process!
