For those who have never cooked with black rice before, it tends to take a bit longer to cook than regular white rice, so patience is key. I soaked the rice for a few hours beforehand to ensure it cooked evenly and became soft. The process reminded me of how much tradition and care go into festive cooking. The aroma while cooking was incredible, and when I served the Pookai, it was heartwarming to see everyone enjoy it wholeheartedly—so much so that the pot was completely cleaned out! If you're looking to celebrate Thai Pongal in a special way or want to try a twist on classic recipes, incorporating Karruppu Kavuni Arasi is definitely worth trying. It's also a nutritious option packed with antioxidants. Aside from being a delightful food experience, making this dish gave me a deep appreciation for cultural traditions and the joy of sharing homemade meals with loved ones during the festivities.
