THE LITTLE ROUTINES SHE CREATES 💜🌸

Some routines become part of the day without anybody ever planning them. 💜

Every time we come back, Bella makes her little stop at this tricycle before going inside. Tonight she walked up carrying Minnie and her other comfort friend, stopped like she always does, sat for a moment, whistled, and gave me that little look back. 🌸

It’s such a small part of our day, but I’ve learned that the small moments can tell me a lot about Bella and the routines she creates for herself.

Bella is 7, autistic and nonverbal, and Watch Bella Bloom is where we share life as it really happens—the routines, progress, challenges, funny moments, quiet moments, and everything in between. 💜

If you’re new here, welcome to our journey. Follow along as we continue learning Bella’s world and watching her grow and bloom in her own way. 🌸💜

... Read moreLiving with and supporting a child like Bella, who is autistic and nonverbal, offers deep insights into how routines and small rituals form a vital part of their daily existence. In many families, these routines become a comforting anchor, providing stability and predictability in a world that can often feel overwhelming. For Bella, her daily stop at the tricycle is more than just a habit—it’s her way of connecting with her surroundings and expressing herself in a consistent, meaningful way. As a parent or caregiver, I've found that embracing these unique little habits not only helps build trust and communication but also enriches our understanding of their internal world. It’s the quiet moments, like Bella’s whistle and glance back, that speak volumes about her feelings and sense of accomplishment. These small gestures convey autonomy and joy, which are incredibly rewarding to witness. For parents and others supporting nonverbal autistic children, it is essential to honor these self-created routines. They can serve as valuable cues that help anticipate needs, ease transitions, and reduce anxiety. Encouraging and celebrating these moments fosters an environment where the child feels seen and valued exactly as they are. Additionally, sharing these experiences—whether through blogs, social media, or community groups—can provide comfort and solidarity among families on similar journeys. It reminds us all that every child blooms in their own way, and each small routine is a powerful story of growth, resilience, and love. Watching Bella bloom every day has been a profound reminder that there is beauty and meaning in every little routine she creates.
