Many Don’t Talk About This… Shame Creates Distance From God

Shame is a powerful emotion that can create a barrier between us and our spiritual connection. From personal experience, I have found that feeling ashamed for mistakes or shortcomings often leads to distancing ourselves from God instead of seeking His comfort. It's easy to believe that God is waiting to judge or condemn us, but the truth is quite the opposite—God’s love is patient and unconditional. One way to overcome shame is by recognizing that our imperfections do not diminish God’s love for us. Faith journeys can be challenging because shame whispers lies that we're unworthy of forgiveness or acceptance. However, embracing the message that God is always ready to welcome us back can be incredibly liberating. When I faced moments of doubt and shame, I found that speaking openly about these feelings with trusted friends or within a faith community helped diminish their power. Also, prayer and meditation on scriptures that affirm God's love and mercy helped me rebuild trust and closeness with Him. Remembering that God’s heart is not about condemnation but restoration can transform how we approach our spiritual lives. Instead of pulling away, leaning into faith—even when feeling undeserving—can fix the distance that shame creates. It's truly a journey of rediscovery and healing that many don’t openly discuss but is vital for spiritual growth and peace.
